Description

St. John's Lutheran Church
Back of photograph: "(c) Henry P. Staats / St. John's Lutheran / 10 Archdale St." Poston: St. John's Lutheran Church is located at 10 Archdale Street and was constructed between 1816-18. Additions were done in 1859 and 1896. The church was restored in 1990-91. Frederick Wesner, the architect, also designed the Old Citadel and the South Carolina Society Hall on 72 Meeting Street. Reverend John Bachman, a long serving clergyman in the nineteenth century, was a noted Lutheran theologian and naturalist as well.
