Archdale Street is named after the brief colonial governor of the Carolina's John Archdale who served from 1695 to 1696. Poston: The Bulwinkle-Ohlandt Building, located at 40 Archdale street was constructed circa 1880 and renovated circa 1995-96. During the nineteenth century the building served as a grocery with an apartment upstairs. During prohibition the building was known to serve illegal liquor in the back, locally referred to as a blind tiger.
