Description
Lowndes Grove is a plantation house built around 1786 and located on the Ashley River in Charleston, South Carolina. The one and a half story house sitting on a raised basement was probably designed as Georgian, but due to renovations over the years, the original appearance has been lost. During the South carolina Inter-State and West indian Exposition in 1901-2, the house was used as the Women's Building. Lowndes Grove was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
