Description

Harrietta Plantation is located east of McClellanville, South Carolina, off of Highway 17, near Santee River. Construction of the plantation house, a Georgian style clapboard, began around 1807 by Mrs. Harriott Horry of Hampton Plantation for her daughter, Harriott, and her huband, Frederick Rutledge. Work on the house stopped when Harriott and Frederick decided to live at Hampton Plantation. In 1858, Stephen D. Doar purchased the property and completed work on the house, becoming the first private resident. Rice was cultivated on the land until 1903.
