Col. Moultrie
Sullivan’s Island
Camp on Hatterals Point 11th June 1776
D Sir
Capt. Vanderhorst who was ordered yesterday to take post at Bennett’s Landing abt 6 or 7 miles from hence, has just sent me an express to inform that the enemy with two large boats were within 300 yards of the shore and he believes they will attempt to land. I have ordered a reinforcement to his assistance, the command of which is intrusted to Capt. Marion being the senior officer. I am assured if they offer to land our people will give a good account of them. However my own opinion is that they mean some [illegible] and probably they will attempt to make good [illegible] landing at some other place.
I am w great respt yr obd hbl
