The house was constructed prior to 1806 most likely by Captain Thomas Tucker. The earliest building on the site, a wooden Charleston single house, had a newer masonry facade of stucco was added sometime in the early nineteenth century, as noted the striking cast-iron balcony was added later on into the century.
