Description
Hampton Plantation was established in 1735. The main house is one of the earliest known examples in the United States of a temple front in domestic architecture. Located north of McClellanville, South Carolina, this historic plantation is a state historic site consisting of just under 300 acres. The last private owner of the property was Archibald Rutledge, South Carolina's first poet laureate.
